For 10 days during May, the tropical fiesta of Port Douglas Carnivale turns the seaside village into a living postcard of tropical culture. This year, organisers have added an element sure to appeal to lovers of live music and chilled cocktails fine wine. The Carnivale Club will operate nightly from 5.00pm till late at the vintage Sugar Wharf right on the waters of the inlet. The heritage-listed venue will be transformed to a club zone with a swag of free and ticketed entertainment designed to thrill and chill, plus a well stocked bar and supper menu catering for all tastes. The Club will commence nightly at 5.00pm, with a sunset session for two hours featuring live music and special beverage offers. Then at 7.30pm the mid evening session starts. An array of entertainers are set to appear, with styles ranging from cool jazz, mellow acoustic and chilled sessions by favourite DJs. Interspersed with the entertainment, organisers plan to inject wine tastings, live cabaret and even comedy acts. The Carnivale Club will be the venue for the final of the Douglas Songwriters Challenge, plus it will host a new event on the 2010 program, the Carnivale Food Fight which will see several of the region’s master chefs battle it out while their audience judges both their on stage skills and their sumptuous canapés. Memberships to Carnivale Club are available (www.carnivale.com.au) and offer a range of discounts on Club sessions.
