Captain Cook's Monument and Memorial Park can be found on the bank of the Endeavour River, not far from the site where Cook beached the damaged Endeavour for some urgently needed repairs.

Also at this site is the remains of the original town well which supplied the early Cooktown residents with fresh drinking water.
