The township of
Daintree had its beginnings as a base for timber cutters whose
quarry was the beautiful rainforest red cedar which abounded in
the surrounding tropical scrub area.
For the history enthusiast, a collection of the loggers’
original tools, as well as an excellent display of historical
photographs of the bygone timber industry, can be seen at the
Daintree Timber Museum and Gallery located in Stewart
Street.
