Mareeba
Heritage Museum and Information Centre is located at 345 Byrnes
Street, Centenary Park, Mareeba, and is open 7 days a week
between 8am and 4pm.
Displays are housed in a Heritage Style Museum which includes a
small shop selling local produce, books, souvenirs and art and
crafts.
Here the visitor can find detailed information on all aspects of
Mareeba, including historical depictions of the lives of early
explorers and pioneers.
There are also displays on mining, forestry, tobacco, agriculture
and the Wet Tropics. The wet tropics display features a cassowary
(the flightless rainforest bird), other birdlife and rainforest
vegetation.
An extensive aboriginal cultural display is also
included.
