The waterfront area within the present Anzac Park and Market Park was the heart of the port from 1877.
Here was the Customs office, Bond Store, Divisional Board's Office, tramway station, loco repair buildings and wharf.  Here also were the Jack & Newell and Walsh & Co. wharves and Custom's boat sheds.
