With a population of just under 2500 permanent
residents, Clifton Beach is growing in stature as a holiday
destination of choice among the beaches along the Marlin Coast
north of Cairns.
Sharing three and a
half kilometres of sandy beach with Palm Cove, its northern
neighbour, and separated from its southern neighbour, Kewarra
Beach, by the mouth of Deep Creek, Clifton Beach attracts
both holiday maker and permanent resident alike.
Visitors have a
choice between luxury resort or apartment style holiday
accommodation mostly located within walking distance of the
beach.
There are two
clearly signed entrances leading off Captain Cook Highway and
into Clifton Beach. The first one, Clifton Road, is
encountered about a kilometre north of the right hand turnoff
into the world renowned Paradise Palms Golf Course. For
the caravanning tourist, two caravan parks with full amenities
are located here.
The second entrance
to Clifton Beach, Endeavour Road, is about a kilometre further
along the highway. Here you will find the modern Clifton
Village Shopping Centre which officially opened on July 28,
2004, replacing an older facility that had been outgrown.
A regular bus service provides transport to the other beach
communities along the Marlin Coast as well as into Cairns
city.
Visitors to the beach are greeted with a wide, clean
sandy beach with shady areas equipped with picnic tables, barbeques and
play areas for children.
