Stretching for 26 kilometres along the coast
north of the city of Cairns are a number of beaches that are
popular with visitors to the region.
Beginning with Machans Beach on the northern side of the mouth
of the Barron River, a mere ten minute drive from the city
centre, and ending at Ellis Beach, is what is known as the
Marlin Coast.
Traveling north along Captain Cook Highway there are eight
separate beach communities, each with their own interesting
histories and each with their own distinct characters.
